Abstract The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Article 32 calls upon international cooperation in support of national efforts for the realization of the purpose and objectives of the Convention. International collaboration between organizations in the field of Assistive Technology (AT) has been going on since many years, but in 2020 significant further steps have been made with the formal establishment in Geneva of the Global Alliance of Assistive Technology Organizations (GAATO). The Alliance is a non-profit Association of AT membership organizations that fosters international collaboration in AT research, policy development and capacity-building. GAATO embraces currently 11 organizations, among which TREATS, RESJA, RESKO and ARATA, but it is expected to grow. The presentation will highlight the significant steps that led to the establishment of GAATO and discuss the most relevant features of the organization's work plan, as well as how it envisages its role as a global player in the changing AT scenario's.
